Hotel Secrets
On the front lawn of our 5 star hotel
in West Sussex sits the largest single rhododendron in England. The
Rhododendron ‘Cornish’ Arboreum is over 150 years old and standing
at 25 feet tall, it produces a mass of cerise flowers in late April
and early May, which is truly a sight to behold.
South Lodge Hotel in Sussex was used as a hospital
during World War II.
Winston Churchill
used to be a guest at the house and today a
door in the Billiard Room marks the place where the lift used to be
that took him up to the Elizabeth Le Bay room.
The Camellia Restaurant (3 AA Rosettes)
The Camellia Restaurant at our 5 star hotel in Sussex is
named after the Camellia ‘Donckelarii’ that grows on the south
terrace which was in existence when Frederick Du Cane Godman
built South Lodge in 1883.
